One Piece Wiki

Shakuyaku,[3][5] most commonly known by her nickname Shakky, is the bartender of Shakky's Rip-off Bar on the Sabaody Archipelago[1] (formerly on Hachinosu over 40 years ago).[6] She lives with her husband Silvers Rayleigh.[7]

Shakky formerly served in the Kuja Pirates as the First Mate of Gloriosa, her captain and the Kuja tribe's empress. She later succeeded Gloriosa as both the Kuja Pirates' captain as well as the Kuja's empress, before eventually being succeeded by Tritoma and Boa Hancock.[2]

During her youth, Shakky was chased by the legendary Marine, Monkey D. Garp.[8] She and the bar she ran at Hachinosu became famous in the world of pirates; while she was beloved by both the Rocks Pirates and Roger Pirates, she only had eyes for Silvers Rayleigh, the Roger Pirates' First Mate. 39 years ago, Shakky was kidnapped and made the ultimate prize for the winner of the Native Hunting Competition on God Valley, which served as one of the major triggers of the God Valley Incident.[9]

She is a minor ally of the Straw Hat Pirates during the Sabaody Archipelago Arc.

Appearance[]

Shakky is a relatively slim and tall woman with short black hair, with two tufts pointing upwards and is always seen smoking a cigarette. She looks very young despite her old age.

She typically wears a pink, V-neck t-shirt that exposes her stomach and cleavage with a black spider on it beneath a black jacket with pink lines running down the sleeves that has a collar with wing-like cuffs. She also wears a yellow beaded necklace, pants that have a giraffe-like pattern, and a belt with a white cardigan tied around it. She also wears white shoes and has painted fingernails.[1]

Twenty-two years ago, her physical features looked exactly as they do now, but with certain subtle clothing differences. She had a more revealing A-shirt with the same color and spider-motif she sports in the current storyline, but paired with short pants. She also did not wear her necklace of beads, nor her jacket.

In her youth, Shakky was noted to be exceptionally beautiful, surpassing even her captain Gloriosa as evidence by the larger amount of fan letters she received and was noted as the most beautiful woman in the world at the time. Her jawline was more rounded, her black hair was longer, reaching past her shoulders, and she wore a revealing blouse, a short sarong similar to a mini skirt sans undergarments with a dark cape covering her shoulders. Gol D. Roger and several members of the Roger Pirates were highly infatuated with her, to the point they tried to abduct her into the crew.

After becoming Empress, she wore a similar outfit to other Kuja Empresses, a revealing dark V-neck blouse that showed much of her chest and a loose sarong that exposed her long, slender legs with the symbol of the Kuja adorned on it, along with a white cape. She also started wearing a pair of large golden serpent earrings.

When she opened her first bar on Hachinosu, she wore a short dark one piece sleeveless dress and a apron with SHAKKY written on the front, both with the symbol of the Kuja adorned on them.

Personality[]

Shakky is very knowledgeable and seems to constantly seek information - particularly on other pirates. She also reads the newspapers in what one could assume to be an obsessive manner, as she believes strongly that knowledge is power. She was the one who informed Luffy of all of the nine other pirates whose bounties exceed 100,000,000. She is rarely seen without a cigarette. Shakky is also highly intuitive, being able to guess Hancock's and Luffy's Impel Down penetration plan, even knowing that Hancock had fallen in love with Luffy.

She also seems intent on keeping her age a secret; Luffy asked her how old she was when he heard that she had quit being a pirate forty years ago, but she immediately changed the subject, though she mentioned that she had been chased by Luffy's grandfather. After meeting Luffy for a short time, she is impressed by him, and states that she's rooting for him to become the Pirate King, particularly since she is aware that Silvers Rayleigh was the first mate of Gol D. Roger and is aware that Roger and Luffy are similar.

In her youth, Shakky has a strongly independent streak as she refused to be under the control of any man including Gol D. Roger himself.[10] Even when she started suffering from Love Sickness, Shakky did not pursue Rayleigh or join the Roger Pirates like Gloriosa tried to but instead sent Rayleigh a love letter telling him to come and get her.[11] Despite her strength and confident demeanor, Shakky can still become very emotional. Her most vulnerable side was seen during the God Valley Incident, when Rayleigh rescued her from being killed by Sommers and told her he had come to get her, with Shakky falling into his arms and crying about how scared she had been during her kidnapping.[12]

Shakky is also fond of teasing people, like teasing Chopper into believing he had to pay 100,000 for cotton candy.[13] She is infamous for charging exorbitant prices for her goods, but she made an exception for Hatchan and the Straw Hats. She also appreciates those who know when not to fight, which is why she favors Luffy over Eustass Kid, who tends to attack anyone, even innocent civilians over petty reasons despite the fact that his bounty was higher.

Relationships[]

Rayleigh[]

Shakuyaku Winks At Rayleigh

Rayleigh uncomfortable with Shakuyaku's affection in the past.

Shakuyaku has known Rayleigh for over 44 years and is shown to have taken a liking to during that period.[14] She fell in love with him sometime during her time as Empress and retired from her positions because of Love Sickness.[15] Unlike how Gloriosa sought out Roger to be together, Shakky wanted Rayleigh to come find her instead of seeking him herself. While Rayleigh did admit he was interested, he did not want to be tied down. He even avoided seeing Shakky on Hachinosu when the Roger Pirates visited her bar.[16] However, after she was captured for a year on God Valley, Rayleigh and the Roger Pirates set out to rescue her, where he personally prevented Shepherd Sommers from taking her life. As a result, Shakuyaku broke into tears and embraced Rayleigh, relieved that he came to save her.[12]

In the present time, Rayleigh is Shakky's business partner and husband and are in an open marriage, as she casually mentioned Rayleigh's relationships with other women without being bothered by it. When he had gone missing for the previous six months before her introduction, she was not worried because she knew what Rayleigh is capable of.[1] Similarly, Rayleigh trusts her implicitly and he knows her qualities. With her deductions, Rayleigh managed to find Luffy after the war.

Friends[]

Hatchan[]

Hatchan is well acquainted with Shakky going back 22 years ago[17] and is one of the handfuls of people who she made an exception for when it comes to paying exorbitant prices for goods at her rip-off bar.

Straw Hat Pirates[]

Shakky is a supporter of the crew. She let them stay at her bar when they arrived on Sabaody Archipelago and told them about Rayleigh.

Shakky took a great interest in them, as she told Luffy of her past with his grandfather and later stated she was a supporter after learning of his views on being Pirate King.

Gorgon Sisters[]

Former Empress of Amazon Lily, Shakky is one of Boa Hancock's predecessors, Shakky helped shelter the Gorgon Sisters after their escape from the World Nobles along with Gloriosa and Rayleigh. She correctly guessed that Hancock would fall in love with Luffy and seems to support her feelings for Luffy. She and Rayleigh saved Hancock from both the Marines and the Blackbeard Pirates. She advised Hancock that the Calm Belt was no longer safe anymore due to the Marines' technological advancements.[18]

Gloriosa[]

Gloriosa is Shakky's predecessor as Empress of Amazon Lily and also her former captain, although Shakky tended to overshadow her superior due to her greater beauty. In any case, Shakky was loyal to Gloriosa and would worry about her well-being.[19] Even after both left the Kuja Pirates, Gloriosa was protective of her former subordinate.[20] When Shakky was abducted, Gloriosa broke down in tears and later accompanied the rest of the Rocks Pirates to God Valley in order to rescue Shakky from the World Nobles.[21]

Before her return to Amazon Lily, Gloriosa lived with Rayleigh and Shakky on Sabaody Archipelago while sheltering the Gorgon Sisters after their escape from the World Nobles. After Hancock lost her title as a Warlord, Shakky and Rayleigh saved Gloriosa's life.

Rosy Life Riders[]

After the timeskip, Duval is seen bandaged up and hooked up to an IV on a bed in Shakky's Rip-off Bar along with his crew.[22]

Enemies[]

Monkey D. Garp[]

It is known that Shakky was once chased by the legendary Marine when she was a pirate, over 42 years ago. Despite their enmity, she does not seem to hold a grudge against him, as seen when she showed no ill will to his grandson and told him of their past encounters.

Roger Pirates[]

The Roger Pirates, including Roger himself, were obsessive fans of Shakuyaku due to her immense beauty during her youth. While Shakky admitted she took a liking to Roger, she refused to join his crew due to her strongly independent nature. Even after falling in love with Rayleigh, Shakky still refused to join the Roger Pirates.

Others[]

Rocks Pirates[]

Much like everyone else the male members of the Rocks Pirates including Xebec himself with the exception to Ochoku, who was responsible with the kidnapping by the World Government, were greatly infatuated with her and happily let her set up her bar in Hachinosu calling her the irreplaceable treasure, and also rushed to visit her bar despite the fact they went bankrupt for its fees. When Shakky was kidnapped by the World Government, they were more than willing to risked their lives fighting the World Government to get her back.

Abilities and Powers[]

As a former Empress of Amazon Lily, Shakuyaku is one of the strongest Kuja.[2] She can easily beat up three large-sized pirates who are larger than her to a bloody pulp before throwing them out.[1] During her prime, the Kuja Pirates would routinely get into fights against the Roger Pirates as Roger wanted her to join his crew after he was smitten by her. She was able to fend off their attempts to capture her consistently, and on one occasion she was even able to easily defeat both Scopper Gaban and Roger as her charm prevented them from fighting back.[10] Even with her arms tied down, she can still defeat multiple standard Marines and send one crashing into a wall by kicking them [23].

As a testament to her strength, during that era she was chased by Garp, one of the strongest Marines ever.[8]

Shakky is always well-informed and always up to date. She can give any information that the Straw Hats may need such as information about the Eleven Supernovas.[1] She always follows the information from the daily newspaper, and she is always able to make the assessment based on how the news react to the movements of pirates.

Haki[]

Main article: Haki

As the former empress of Amazon Lily and the former captain of the Kuja Pirates, Shakuyaku can use Haki like all Kuja.[2]

History[]

Past[]

Shakky Beats Roger

Shakky easily defeats Roger.

Around 44 years ago, after raiding an island, the Kuja Pirates were attacked by the Roger Pirates. Roger demanded that Shakky join his crew, forcing her to personally help defend her crewmates. Roger and his crew were immediately lovestruck by the sight of her, allowing her to easily subdue almost all of them, including Roger and Gaban. With the Roger Pirates effectively defeated, Shakky ordered her subordinates to steal their treasure. Before they could take it all, a sudden attack by the Marine Vice Admiral Monkey D. Garp forced them to flee early. As they sailed away, Gloriosa was suddenly struck with Love Sickness. Soon afterward, Shakky took her place as empress. Her popularity subsequently grew to unprecedented levels.[10]

At some point while captain, the Kuja Pirates had another clash with the Rogers Pirates and she started suffering Love Sickness herself after falling in love with Silvers Rayleigh, the first mate of the Roger Pirates. She sent Rayleigh a love letter telling him to come and get her.[11]

Shakky On Hachinosu

Shakky arrives on Hachinosu.

42 years ago, she decided to give up the life of a pirate to open a bar,[8] deciding on Hachinosu as the location. After being dropped off by Tritoma, every pirate on the island was immediately lovestruck by her beauty. When asked if she intended to join the ruling Rocks Pirates like Gloriosa had, Shakky denied them, and remarked that she simply needed a place to stay until the heat with the Marines blew over. The pirates of Hachinosu were quick to tend to her every need, quickly helping her establish the first iteration of Shakky's Rip-off Bar. After Rocks himself returned to his island, he and his crewmates were lovestruck as well, doing whatever Shakky asked. She had become Hachinosu's crown jewel, irreplaceable. The wait time simply to enter her bar was over a month.[24]

Shakky's popularity remained strong, and by 40 years ago, pirates were lined up for months at a time and going bankrupt from simply trying to enter her bar. Befitting its name, Shakky ripped off most of her customers, offering them inferior food and drinks, although none of them cared. While tending to Rocks' crew, she took notice of his different mood, and correctly deduced that he was expecting to father a child soon. While Rocks tried to deny it, Roger suddenly arrived on Hachinosu, loudly announcing his presence to Shakky. Shakky excitedly approached him, expecting Rayleigh to be present. When Roger revealed that he was still on the ship, she disappointedly walked away and fainted.[25]

39 years ago, Shakky was abducted from Hachinosu by an unknown perpetrator, who was speculated to be affiliated with the World Government. Marlon, who was on guard that night, was killed alongside various others. Her kidnapping caused a mixed of anger and grief all over the pirate world. During her imprisonment, she was kept under excellent conditions, as her captor had plans to use her as a prize for the next Native Hunting Competition.

Shakky God Valley Prize

Shakky is presented as the grand prize of the Native Hunting Competition.

38 years ago, said competition came to pass. Shakky was taken to God Valley and presented as the grand prize of the Native Hunting Competition, to be taken as a wife or slave for the winner. Figarland Garling and Shepherd Sommers both had eyes for her and bickered over who would be victorious. To keep her from escaping, she was placed in a holding cell, to be released to the winner after the competition. However, Shakky's friends from Hachinosu, as well as the Roger Pirates, made their way to the island in order to save her.

Rayleigh And Shakky Embrace

Shakky and Rayleigh embrace.

Thanks to her great strength, Shakky was able to hold off any Marines who attempted to move her from her confines, preventing them from moving her to a more isolated location. This was a particularly vital move on her part, as the Rocks and Roger Pirates were rapidly approaching from both sides. Sommers eventually appeared himself to see what was going on and was in disbelief at the sight of how many Marines Shakky had defeated. After quipping about the oncoming pirates, Sommers angrily smacked Shakky for her audacity. Although she attempted to counterattack, Sommers responded by forming a mace and wounding her with it. While she was downed, Sommers realized that even if the pirates failed to break through the defense, Shakky would go to Garling anyway. With nothing to lose, he prepared to kill her in an attempt to make the pirates' mission all for naught. However, at the last moment, Rayleigh appeared and attacked Sommers, defeating him. As Rayleigh apologized for his late arrival, Shakky burst into tears, and the two happily embraced each other. Before they could share more intimate words, Roger and Gaban reminded them of the precarious situation outside, forcing them to flee.[12] As they fled, Rayleigh attempted to tell her something, but Shakky hushed him, having already known what it was.[26]

At some point after the God Valley Incident, she married Rayleigh.[3]

22 years ago, after Gold Lion Shiki's escape from Impel Down, Hatchan visited Shakky's bar. Shakky offered Hatchan a drink when he wanted to meet Rayleigh.[17]

15 years ago, Shakuyaku, along with Rayleigh and Nyon, protected the Gorgon Sisters on Sabaody Archipelago, after Fisher Tiger liberated the sisters from the World Nobles.[27][28]

Summit War Saga[]

Sabaody Archipelago Arc[]

Rayleigh had gone missing for the previous six months before Hatchan brought the Straw Hat Pirates to meet Rayleigh at Shakky's Rip-off Bar. Upon meeting Luffy, Shakky informed him of the other major pirates that had arrived on the island around the same time as him.[1] She then told them that they might find Rayleigh at Sabaody Park.[29]

After the Straw Hats found Rayleigh and Camie at the Human Auctioning House, they all returned to Shakky's bar.[30] When Luffy declined easy information about One Piece, Shakky stated that she was a fan of Luffy. She took care of the wounded Hatchan, as well as Camie and Pappag, as the Straw Hats departed, with the intention to reunite in three days.[31] However, Bartholomew Kuma ambushed the Straw Hats and teleported them away from Sabaody Archipelago to different locations.

As time passed and the Straw Hats had not been heard from since they were last seen, Camie began to worry about their safety. While Pappag and Hatchan were convinced they would be fine, Shakuyaku on the contrary, pointed out that their chances of facing a Marine Admiral and escaping were slim, and noted that the current era was slowly changing, so the Straw Hats must catch and hold on to "the waves" that will inevitably wash it away to survive.[32]

Kuma later visited the bar and explained his actions to Rayleigh.[33]

Post-War Arc[]

When Shakky learned about Luffy's situation after the Summit War of Marineford, she told Rayleigh that if she were Boa Hancock, she would hide Luffy from the Marines on Amazon Lily. Rayleigh then set out on his own for Amazon Lily and left his Vivre Card with Shakky.[34]

At the Thousand Sunny, Camie asked Shakky if the Straw Hats were going to reunite using the Vivre Cards. Shakky replied that it would take time and assumed that Rayleigh had found Luffy because the newspaper had reported on Luffy ringing the Ox Bell. She then spoke about the need to protect the Thousand Sunny until the Straw Hats returned. When Kuma arrived, Shakky told everyone not to worry, unaware that the Warlord of the Sea had lost his free will and become a weapon of the World Government.[35]

Fish-Man Island Saga[]

Return to Sabaody Arc[]

Shakky revealed to Sanji which of the Straw Hats had already arrived on the island.[36] She informed Brook through Den Den Mushi about the situation with the Marines and the Fake Straw Hat Crew. She then went to the Thousand Sunny with Rayleigh. There, she informed the Straw Hats about the Marines' activities on the archipelago and that Brook should be arriving to the ship soon. She then said that everyone needed to hurry since the Marines were closing in on them, and that the only one they were not in contact with was Luffy. She then gave them Rayleigh's Vivre Card so that Luffy would be following the card and was "counting on it."[37]

After the Straw Hats finally gathered, Shakky watched them sail off to Fish-Man Island.[38]

Wano Country Saga[]

Wano Country Arc[]

After the Seven Warlords of the Sea were abolished, Shakky accompanied Rayleigh to Amazon Lily, where he drove off the Marines and the Blackbeard Pirates who had invaded the island.[18]

Final Saga[]

Egghead Arc[]

Weeks after the attack on Amazon Lily was over, Shakky sat with Rayleigh and the leaders of the island and discussed the situation and the Marines' new weapons, the Seraphim.[18] Later, she and Rayleigh returned to Shakky's bar and listened to Vegapunk's world-wide broadcast. After Shakky finished beating up a pirate, she questioned why Rayleigh was drinking so much during the broadcast.[39] As the broadcast neared its end, Shakky draped a blanket over Rayleigh, who had fallen asleep at the bar.[40]

Anime and Manga Differences[]

In the anime, she briefly flirts with Brook. When he asks about the color of her panties, she indifferently is about to tell him, but is interrupted by Camie and Pappag, though later she does tell him off screen.[13]

Trivia[]

  • Shakuyaku (シャクヤク or 芍薬?) is the Japanese name for the Chinese peony (Paeonia lactiflora), befitting the flower-based naming scheme of the Kuja tribeswomen.
  • Shakuyaku is the first Kuja to be shown in the series, although her identity as one was only revealed 561 chapters after her debut.
  • In the Blue Deep databook, Shakuyaku's relationship with Silvers Rayleigh is written as that of friends, rather than husband and wife. As he was referred to as her "uchi no hito" (うちの人, lit. "person of my household"?) in the manga,[7] their relationship as stated in the databook may be an oversight by Oda.
  • Shakuyaku's favorite food is whiskey.[3]
  • Shakuyaku's connection to Rocks D. Xebec was already hinted by Eiichiro Oda in the Volume 90 SBS, during the Levely Arc.[41]
  • Shakuyaku has never been shown to have a snake partner despite all other Kuja having one.
  • Shakuyaku is so far the only Kuja empress to successfully be with the man she fell in love with.
  • Shakuyaku's involvement in the God Valley Incident mirrors Helen of Troy's involvement in the Trojan War, as both were beautiful women who were abducted (or eloped in Helen's case), resulting in invaders (Pirates for Shakky and the Greeks for Helen) sailing to hostile territory (God Valley and Troy, respectively) to reclaim both women.
