Kaicho Pinky[]

Based off of Fuza's talk page, we have some reason the believe that Kaicho Pinky is actually a bird with an individual name. Thoughts? Montblanc Noland :: Talk 23:06, March 17, 2015 (UTC)

It's both for that. The monstrous part is just the literal translation. SeaTerror (talk) 23:26, March 17, 2015 (UTC)

Yeah, it seems "Pinky" is the name, while "Kaicho" is the species. Awaikage Talk 01:38, March 18, 2015 (UTC)

JOP confirmed the chou part is bird and Yume said Kai was the monstrous part in chat. Kaichou (Monstrous Bird) + Pinky means the race is Kaichou Pinky. SeaTerror (talk) 03:00, March 19, 2015 (UTC)

Actually, it seems that Pinky is a character and "Monstrous Bird" is the species or just an epithet of sorts. It's listed in the Characters Directory, and according to Mizu, the description says something like "a giant bird that caught Luffy who was planning to use it for food and took him to a harbor town". Clearly talking about the individual bird, rather than a species. So yeah, I think Pinky should be separated into its own page. Awaikage Talk 21:20, March 19, 2015 (UTC)

So is the name technically "Kaicho Pinky" or just "Pinky"? I just want to clarify before making a page. Montblanc Noland :: Talk 21:56, March 19, 2015 (UTC)

Just "Pinky". Awaikage Talk 22:08, March 19, 2015 (UTC)

Neither. Monstrous Bird Pinky. Pinky being the race with monstrous bird as description. SeaTerror (talk) 22:09, March 19, 2015 (UTC)

I'm pretty sure "Pinky" is the name of this particular bird. Whether "kaicho" is a description or an actual species is hard to determine, since we know of no other examples. :/ MizuakiYume (talk) 22:12, March 19, 2015 (UTC)

Balloon was a beta version of Pinky, and he is also a "Kaichou". Except pronounced "Ruku" in pre-One Piece (still written as "Kaichou"). JapaneseOPfan :: Talk 00:24, March 20, 2015 (UTC)

We don't know whether Pinky is the bird's name or the species of the bird. --Klobis (talk) 03:58, March 20, 2015 (UTC)

I think it's safe to say that it's the name of the bird.

  1. Listed in the Characters Directory instead of the species classification page.
  2. Description only talks about this particular bird.
  3. As JOP mentioned, Balloon is also a "Kaicho".

Awaikage Talk 15:54, March 20, 2015 (UTC)

Well, if it's listed under Characters rather than Species, then I'm definitely inclined to agree that this refers to the specific bird. MizuakiYume (talk) 16:05, March 20, 2015 (UTC)

Is that the characters directory of the databook? If so I totally agree with Kage on this one. JustSomeDude...  Talk | 16:12, March 20, 2015 (UTC)

Yes. Awaikage Talk 16:19, March 20, 2015 (UTC)

Clear majority for a page. Admin approved. Mark this one done, folks! Montblanc Noland :: Talk 16:23, March 20, 2015 (UTC)

Big Bird and Island[]

To me, it seems like "Big Bird" is more of a proper name than a species name. Should we do the same as was done for Pinky and make a page? Also, as it stands, there is no source or link to validate "Big Bird Island". Does anyone know where this came from? Montblanc Noland :: Talk 12:56, 4 January 2021 (UTC)

Japanese is 大鳥 (ōtori), so I think it's just meant as "big/large bird" and not a name. There's no Vivre Card entry for him either. "Big Bird Island" is likely a fanmade term. Awaikage Talk 14:04, 4 January 2021 (UTC)

Ah, thanks Kage! I'll add the nihongo to the name for clarity's sake and remove the "Big Bird Island" term. Montblanc Noland :: Talk 14:23, 4 January 2021 (UTC)
