Hyoutauros and Kirintauros[edit source]

See other articles with disputed talk pages. Hey! Let's talk this out!

This is an active talk page. Please participate if you wish to make changes to the subject at hand. Remember to remain calm and civil throughout the discussion!

I'm new to this wiki, but the way this should be discussed is in a public place for everyone to read: through a talk page and not an edit war. Hyoutauros and Kirintauros seem to have names given by episode credits and may cause debate - so it's a particular situation that I feel should be treated as such. If the objective of the wiki is to empower the reader in relation to One Piece topics, my opinion is that that should be referenced somewhere in this page (as they don't have a specific page for themselves yet). Thank you for opening a talk page about this, Stoopid. I agree that a reference is necessary, but I also support these characters getting pages. Their names are combinations of animals and the word "taurus", which I see as similar to Inuarashi or Nekomamushi. I have already made draft pages I can rename as normal pages for each (Hyoutauros and Kirintauros) if we decide that they deserve pages. Montblanc Noland :: Talk 20:59, July 13, 2020 (UTC)

I agree they should have a page. That would also remove the necessity for a reference to the names in this page, in my opinion. StoopidGuy (talk) 21:13, July 13, 2020 (UTC)

But in regards to how the page stands now, I agree with the compromise Rgilbert and I made. I especially disagree with the usage of the Gallery Template to put images of a whole bunch of unnamed centaurs. That's not what the Gallery Template is for. Galleries are for named characters, important characters, or characters that have made alot of appearances. If they are not named, they go in a list to describe what they are or they go in a gallery section, not the gallery template.Nightmare Pirates (talk) 21:47, July 13, 2020 (UTC)

Would anyone care if the draft pages were made into new pages? Rgilbert27 (talk) 22:11, July 13, 2020 (UTC)

Nightmare, I agree with the compromise you and Rgilbert made of a list with the names referenced.

Rgilbert, are you asking if it would be an issue to make the drafts into normal pages? Or asking why we are bothering with the discussion? The pages are drafts because we had not yet discussed if the names were valid for page creation. Stoopid and I think so, and we have a precedent of other characters getting named in credits/captions to base our decision on. Montblanc Noland :: Talk 22:27, July 13, 2020 (UTC)

And that is why there should be, at least, a page listing unnamed characters that would be split after a certain byte count before making a page of them otherwise how would any user know there are potential draft pages that could fill the void. Rgilbert27 (talk) 23:17, July 13, 2020 (UTC)

I personally think those names are generic descriptors instead of actual names. Because the other named centaurs (Smooge, Chappe) do no follow the same theme.

Also, I do not see how exactly Inuarashi and Nekomamushi are comparable. They're neither a storm nor a viper. Hyoutaurus and Kirintaurus, however, feel like just calling them for the animal lower halves they have.

KingCannon (talk) 23:28, July 13, 2020 (UTC)

Then there should be a Credits section instead of a Characters in Order of Appearance on episode pages. Rgilbert27 (talk) 00:09, July 14, 2020 (UTC)

I had not looked at the Japanese for Centaurs before, but now that I have, KingCannon, you're correct, they are not similar to Inuarashi/Nekomamushi. I still support treating as names, but I understand your "animal lower halves" counterargument.Montblanc Noland :: Talk 00:57, July 14, 2020 (UTC)

Effectively they are like Minotaurus, Minozebra, Minorhinoceros, etc. So that could be an argument for. Furthermore other centaurs where not credited or even mentioned in subtitles as XXXtauros, they were simply called centaurs even though they could have been called "Doe"tauros, "Rhino"tauros, etc.Nightmare Pirates (talk) 01:15, July 14, 2020 (UTC)

Minotaurus and the rest were given names in credits? If you're talking abour name similarities, I agree - and them being named Hyoutaurus and Kirintaurus is close to that. It could also be simply descriptive, that's why it's open for discussion. I still feel it's appropriate to have pages for them.

About the template, why should it be so exclusive? Because we put a name under the image, and we don't have enough named characters in the group? Even if the template isn't used, I think it is a valuable piece of information to have images focused on each member in another format, like it was said before. StoopidGuy (talk) 10:20, July 14, 2020 (UTC)

My problem with using the Gallery Template with portraits to include something like Tapir Centaur. It removes the references as it currently stands. And until we decide if those two above get pages, I really don't want RG to ask me where the sources for them are for the 5th time again.Nightmare Pirates (talk) 20:33, July 14, 2020 (UTC)

What other users are missing is that there are characters named outside the manga and that they're only reference is, more or less, under Anime Notes section. If we had a Credits section we would know why characters are referred by those names in galleries and not just as a description of what they are. With that said can we agree on these names as placeholders for the time being? Rgilbert27 (talk) 22:30, July 14, 2020 (UTC)

No, it is still an active discussion without a clear majority. Please stay on topic. Montblanc Noland :: Talk 23:10, July 14, 2020 (UTC)

Are there any other objections to the two pages being made--Nightmare Pirates (talk) 03:51, September 10, 2020 (UTC)
