I have something to clear up here, why do the Horo horo no mi should be considered as a sniper? it was a devil fruit not a weapon, and the gun users should be prioritized with this while the cannon can be considered others. Coldhandzz 11:10, November 4, 2009 (UTC)
- It has to be a gun of some sort, a firearm, long ranged weapon, etc. The Horo horo no mi is an explosive DF at its best thats all. One-Winged Hawk 14:32, November 4, 2009 (UTC)
Aweful lot...[edit source]
Seems to be the "Swordsman Fever" where everyone he holds a sword is automatically a swordsman even if they never use it is happening here with guns. One-Winged Hawk 13:15, December 14, 2009 (UTC)
- Some of the characters added here, like Franky, Capone, and Kizaru for instance, aren't exactly snipers per say. Franky uses guns but seems to rely more damage than accuracy. Capone has cannons but he isn't the one shooting them, his crew are. Kizaru shoots light but its somewhat no different than Aokiji shooting ice partisans or Akainu shooting out magma fists. Maybe characters that should be listed here are those who really act like true snipers like Usopp, Chew, and Daddy Masterson. They shoot stuff but it really seems like a skill rather than a random use of a projectile weapon.Mugiwara Franky 23:28, December 16, 2009 (UTC)
- Exactly the point I'm making. One-Winged Hawk 00:06, December 17, 2009 (UTC)
Why is Heracles on this page? I don't think we've ever seen him use any kind of ranged weapon. I know he trained Usopp in the use of Pop Greens, but I don't think there's any evidence that he taught him anything about being a sniper. I think he should be removed from the page. Why Braham isn't listed? 188.8.131.52 22:44, February 4, 2014 (UTC)
just cause someone uses guns doesnt mean theyre a sniper--22:47, February 4, 2014 (UTC)
Should Trebol be considered a sniper? We know he has the skills of one, as shown by his ability to easily headshot flies (Yasopp bragged about a similar feat as well, but with ants), and Robin did note his amazing hand-eye coordination. KingCannon (talk) 21:57, August 22, 2015 (UTC)
Instead of just focusing on snipers, we should change the name to the swordsmen equivalent of firearm users called Gunmen and have Sniper as a section along with Gunner for artillery.--Rgilbert27 (talk) 07:58, May 14, 2018 (UTC)
I know neither Gunmen or Gunner are terms used in the series but Axemen and Polearm Wielders are not used either, instead their used in temple galleries and seeing as Sniper is another type on gunman it would be better to put here then another temple gallery on the Firearm page seeing as there are as many gunman to swordsmen then axe and polearm users put together.--Rgilbert27 (talk) 12:02, May 14, 2018 (UTC)
That's the term everyone is looking for. It's broad enough to encompass all kinds of ranged weaponry (pistol, rifle, sniper, cannon, slingshot etc.) and even long-ranged unarmed attacks if it comes to it, and it doesn't distinguish fighting skills. What it does connote is skill, which "gunner" doesn't necessarily - besides being restricted to gunpowder weapons, gunner can just be a task or responsibility and not necessarily a mastery or a high-precision job.
You have to read between the lines with certain translations, and know what terms are available to your target language. "Marksmen" is a perfectly adequate translation in the context of how the term is broadly used in the series.
Random "snipers"[edit source]
It's a crew profession that some characters identify themselves as. We identify them through a combination of skill, fighting style or official title since just wielding a gun doesn't make a sniper.
For example, archers are snipers by default since the skill to use a bow is much higher than that of a gun. A character like Bege is definitely a sniper since he primarily fights with a tommy gun and can hit faraway targets with ease. Meanwhile, Doflamingo isn't a sniper since his pistol and Tamaito are just occasional moves, and he doesn't have any marksman feats to speak of.
It is not actually like that "sniper" is anyone who carries a long range weapon like a rifle or an arc on a regular basis in combat, so the template we have is wrong, those who use short or medium range weapons like pistols should be removed, or the ones who literally use their hands like Katakuri or Jean Bart, that is not a sniper. Cracker-Kun (talk) 01:51, August 13, 2020 (UTC)
Izo uses pistols. Are you going to say he's not a sniper after disarming King with a bullet?
Yasopp showcased sniping skills with a pistol. Same for Bege. Usopp used a meager slingshot.
Yeah, Izo is not a sniper, neither Chew, Usopp is a sniper, Yasopp is a sniper, Petermoo, Van Augur, most of the Kuja, everyone who uses a long range weapon, otherwise people like Madilloman or Pudding are marked as snipers in the template just because they use pistols. Cracker-Kun (talk) 02:09, August 13, 2020 (UTC)
Sorry, but you don't make any sense. Slingshots are not long-range weapons, but that never prevented Usopp from being a sniper. And Yasopp was already a sniper 10 years ago when we saw him just using a pistol.
Plus, Daddy Masterson is a sniper by title and he only uses handguns. Same for Mr. 7 and Miss Father's Day, who are referred as a "sniper duo" by Vivi and utilize pistols. KingCannon (talk) 02:16, August 13, 2020 (UTC)
You obviously don't know what a sniper is. Snipers use different kinds of guns. Snipers are people who hides him/herself in certain areas and shoot long range weapons to unsuspecting people.
Yes, they are. It's why Mr. 7 and Miss Father's Day are Snipers despite only using pistols. They are canonically called a "sniper duo".
Jean Ango is a self-titled Sniper. He doesn't use firearms either.
Daddy Masterson only uses handguns.
Katakuri kept himself hidden at the wedding while shooting down dangerous guests with jelly beans with incredible precision. Sniper.
There's definitely a lot of wrong examples here. Looking at the canon characters on the template:
- Van Augur
- Mr. 7
- Miss Fathersday
- Jean Ango
- Yeti Cool Brothers
Dubious/not a sniper at all
- Everyone else
Since we say on the wiki that who uses a sword is a swordsman, yes, every long-range weapon user is a sniper. For me this are the only snipers:
- Benn Beckman
- Mr. 7
- Miss Father's Day
- Van Augur
- Jean Ango
- Charlotte Mont-d'Or
- Charlotte Flampe
- Kurozumi Orochi
And for the non-canon
Daddy Masterson Silver-Silver Kansho Naomi Drunk Nypers Gordon John
All of these have been seen using a long-range weapon, with the exception of Miss Father's Day, Mr. 7, Jean Ango and Daddy Masterson, who are official snipers. Cracker-Kun (talk) 17:25, August 13, 2020 (UTC)
First you say the term is overused and then you want to add even more "snipers"? Sniper is an official crew position in One Piece and not just a loose fighting style. Awaikage Talk 17:34, August 13, 2020 (UTC)
I would argue Gladius is a sniper since not only did he teach Law about marksmanship, but he is also equipped with aiming goggles that increase his accuracy, allowing to shoot from afar.
