Torta's father was the head chef at the king's castle. However, a new rival cook injuring his leg, he was unable to continue working.
Legend of the Rainbow Island[]
During Festa Circle's daily festival, Torta watched Sanji and Josephine working a stand. Sanji noticed him watching, and after asking if he was hungry, made him a meal. After eating it, Torta stole Sanji's knife and tried to run away, but was chased down by Sanji, Dias, and Vivi. When they caught him, he apologized for taking it, revealing that he wanted to give it to his father as a gift and to help him recover.
He explained that the next day, there was going to be a cooking contest at the festival, the winner of which would become the new head chef and replace his father. Upon learning that the cook who injured his dad was participating, Sanji offered to enter and win, and Torta apologized for getting him involved.
Sometime later, Sanji visited Torta's house, confirming he wanted to enter the contest. Torta informed Sanji about a legendary ingredient on the nearby mountain, which he went to get. While Sanji was gone, Torta and his father learned that he had been replaced as head chef; depressed, his father tried to throw out his knives, and Torta tried to stop him. They were still arguing when Sanji returned, and with the Straw Hat's help, Torta was able to stop his dad from giving up on being a chef.
The following day, Torta woke up early, and his father delivered Sanji's ingredient to Festa Castle, the site of the contest. Torta later watched the contest, and when Sanji was victorious, explained to the king how Pesca injured his father.
He later bid the Straw Hats farewell when they left Festa Circle.
