Ulti[3] is one of the Tobiroppo, the strongest six Shinuchi of the Beasts Pirates.[4]

Due to her actions and role, she is a supporting antagonist in the Wano Country Arc.

Appearance[edit | edit source]

Ulti's color scheme in the manga.

Ulti is young woman of middling height,[2] with a light complexion. Her hair reaches near her mid-back and forms rounded locks mainly blue in coloration, but with thin, light-pinkish streaks running through (plus a single white one over her left eye). Blunt bangs fall on her forehead, split on the left, and an ahoge stands up on her head. Characteristically (as with many of her crewmates), Ulti has horns: a sharp, upward-curving pair emerging from the sides of her head, tan in coloration, that resemble a bull's. Her eyes are large, round, fringed by long lashes, and encompass violet irises. Her lower face up to the nose is covered by a light-pink mask with a scalloped edge that is trimmed with a white stripe.[4][5]

Otherwise, Ulti takes to wearing a light-colored, long-sleeved minidress pleated above the waist, with a dark bow below a point collar, and the non-pleated middle section having a short button placket, topping the short skirt part that has a slightly ruffled hem and causes most of Ulti's legs to be visible. Fastened on the woman's shoulders is a dark cape trimmed with light fur on its edges and inside, which goes to near the ground, and her footwear are dark high heels.[4][5]

Personality[edit | edit source]

Ulti is a bold, rude, and short-tempered young woman, not one to back down from a verbal quarrel and regularly threatening violence against those who annoy her. Somewhat fickle, she is shown acting friendly and trying to come off as refined, mature one moment, then yelling whilst dangerously blunt the next. Not even the likes of Queen or Kaido, both her direct superiors (and the latter of whom most crew members seem at least somewhat afraid of), are safe from her vitriol, implying that she does not fear them at all, even to her fellow Tobiroppo's shock. Also, Ulti has no issue with generally acting in a highly casual manner towards Kaido, expressing loud, girly glee during their reunion.[4][5]

Ulti seems to like speaking in a mature manner, ending most of her sentences with "de-arinsu" (でありんす?), a polite expression meaning "to be" that is associated with geisha (which becomes a generally sophisticated register in the Viz translation). According to Page One, this verbal habit is new as an attempt of hers to sound like a fancy lady. When she snaps, however, Ulti's tone shifts to that of a bratty child.[4][5]

It is shown that in battle, Ulti is quick to make decisions and keeps her guard up continuously, as seen when she attacked and seemingly crushed Monkey D. Luffy in their first clash. Rather than gloating and letting down her guard like the grunts around her, she instead kept track of him using Haki, quickly transforming and readying for further combat upon sensing Luffy's Haki.[6]

Relationships[edit | edit source]

Crew[edit | edit source]

Ulti, together with her brother, is looked down upon as "brats" by some of her fellow Tobiroppo, as well as the All-Stars, due to her young age.[4][7]

Page One[edit | edit source]

Ulti and Page One's "sibling" relationship.

It is unknown whether Ulti and Page One are related by blood or not, but either one seems to acknowledge the other as their sibling. Page One specifically refers to Ulti as "elder sister" (姉貴 aneki?, VIZ: "sis"),[8] she being two years older than him.[2]

Ulti is extremely protective of Page One, whom to his annoyance she endearingly calls "Pay-tan" (ペーたん Pē-tan?, VIZ: "Pay-Pay"), "-tan" being a more diminutive version of the name suffix "-chan" (usually used by and to address children in a "cute", affectionate manner). However, this does not fully safeguard Page One from the same hostility Ulti extends to the rest of their crew. While speaking kindly to him when unagitated, her treatment of Page One is rather volatile, ranging from supportive to demanding, to abrasive and outright violent, usually escalating the more he tries to rebuff her.[4][9][6][10][7][11]

Overall, Ulti seems more overtly attached to Page One than the other way around, much to his annoyance.[4][9] She chased him during their search for Yamato, even latching onto and forcing him to give her a piggyback ride at one point.[9]

Kaido[edit | edit source]

Ulti seems to be on good terms with Kaido, her manner of speaking to him being affectionate yet almost brazenly casual, to Page One's dismay (though she still addresses him with the honorific "-sama"). Seeming to lack fear of her general, Ulti has shown no issue with being insulting to him, calling his apparent summoning of the Tobiroppo "dumb" for what she deemed "another family problem", even to Kaido's own face, which Kaido seemed unfazed by.[4][5]

Despite said lack of formal respect, Ulti holds Kaido in high enough regard to believe that he and only he will become Pirate King, as seen by her appearing to be offended by Luffy declaring he would gain the title.[6]

Abilities and Powers[edit | edit source]

Being among the Tobiroppo, Ulti holds great authority in the Beast Pirates, only Kaido and the All-Stars ranking above her. As one of the strongest six Shinuchi,[4] she is a very capable combatant despite her young age, enough so to pose a threat to Luffy, an extremely powerful pirate of the Worst Generation, and have him both remark on her great power and consider using Gear Fourth when she held him down.[6]

Physical Abilities[edit | edit source]

Despite her relatively small frame, Ulti possesses immense physical strength, chiefly expressed through her headbutting style of attack. Such strength, coupled with her durability and Haki, allows her to unleash blows so powerful, her crewmates consider them comparable to cannon blasts. She was able to overpower Luffy, who has tremendous strength of his own, in a headbutting clash, with onlookers believing Ulti had almost certainly broken her foe's skull, though he ultimately emerged with little injury.[6]

Attacks[edit | edit source]

  • Ul-Zugan (ウル頭銃ズガン Uru Zugan?, Literally meaning "Ul Head Gun"): Ulti jumps into the air and rears her head back before covering her forehead in Busoshoku Haki and slamming it forward into her target's head. The force of this attack is such that some of Ulti's crewmates were heard comparing it to a cannon shot, likely to pulverize the target's skull. It was first seen used against Luffy, and although it physically overpowered him it did not cause him any notable injury. This attack is called Ulti-Mortar in the VIZ translation.[6]

Devil Fruit[edit | edit source]

Further information: Ryu Ryu no Mi, Model: Pachycephalosaurus

Ulti in her pachycephalosaurus hybrid form.

Ulti ate the Ryu Ryu no Mi, Model: Pachycephalosaurus, an Ancient Zoan-type Devil Fruit that allows her to transform into a full pachycephalosaurus and human-pachycephalosaurus hybrid at will. Ulti's crewmates consider her full-beast transformation to be excessive force against most opponents, likely to cause great collateral damage, and she uses it against only those opponents she takes seriously.[6]

When transformed, Ulti's already immense physical power is increased further, to the point where she could grab hold of Luffy's shoulders and thereby immobilize the pirate despite his own incredible strength. In her hybrid and full-beast forms (most so in the latter), Ulti has the front part of her skull notably strengthened and hardened,[6] though exactly how greatly this bolsters the force of her headbutts remains unseen. As a dinosaur, Ulti is much tougher when transformed than normal Zoan ability users, as exemplified by the woman quickly recovering from a full-on hit by Yamato's Raimei Hakke, being only briefly rendered unconscious.[12]

Haki[edit | edit source]

Further information: Haki

Busoshoku Haki[edit | edit source]

Ulti can use Busoshoku Haki, as shown when she used Hardening to reinforce her headbutts.[6]

Kenbunshoku Haki[edit | edit source]

Ulti has shown usage of Kenbunshoku Haki, able to sense Luffy's Haki and realize he was still alive after she had attacked him. She was also able to sense Yamato coming toward her, but could not avoid her attack.[6]

Weapons[edit | edit source]

Ulti's morning star.

Ulti wields a sharp-spiked, morning star-like club, which she used to clash with the kanabo-wielding Yamato.[13][14]

History[edit | edit source]

Wano Country Arc[edit | edit source]

Ulti with the other Tobiroppo arrived at Onigashima during the latest Fire Festival. Kaido had them brought into his fortress[1] and, as they waited to meet with him, Queen tried to get them involved in the festivities, to Ulti's derision. Ulti questioned why Kaido wanted to meet with them and asked if he was "dumb", causing the other Tobiroppo to react with sharp disapproval.[4] When Kaido then greeted the six in his castle, he gave them the mission of finding his "son" Yamato, saying he would let them battle one of the All-Stars for their post if they succeeded.[5]

Ulti clashes with Luffy.

While searching for Yamato inside the castle, Ulti tagged along with Page One, whom she forced to carry her when she grew tired of running. After causing him to tumble down some stairs in the process, the pair encountered Monkey D. Luffy.[9] When Luffy, in introducing himself, declared how he was going to become Pirate King, Ulti angrily responded that Kaido was the one take that title, subsequently butting heads with the enemy. The brief clash saw Ulti sending her foe crashing into the floor, but she sensed that he was unharmed and so transformed into her pachycephalosaurus-hybrid form. Luffy emerged from his crater and rushed toward Ulti and Page One, and before they could react grabbed hold of Ulti's horns and used them to slam her down, before seemingly defeating Page One with an Elephant Gun. Ulti then grabbed Luffy's arms and prepared to headbutt him yet again in her full-beast form, as Luffy prepared to activate Gear Fourth, but Yamato suddenly appared and, before Ulti could properly react, struck her with a kanabo, knocking her out.[6]

In the time that Yamato ran away with Luffy, Page One tried to shake Ulti awake, and when she did wake up swiftly, she rudely told the surrounding doctors to lay off before hugging Page One and demanding affection. She then grew angry when Page One ran off to chase after Yamato and Luffy.[10] After hearing that Luffy and Yamato went to the Performance Stage in front of the castle, Ulti headed there, intent on making Yamato pay for attacking her.[15] Upon finding Yamato, she immediately went on the offensive using her morning star, which was blocked by Yamato using her kanabo. Ulti expressed confused anger once Yamato declared her intention to become "Kozuki Oden"[13] and proceeded to further clash with her[14] until the latter got away.

As the Ninja-Pirate-Mink-Samurai Alliance was waging war on Onigashima, Ulti and Page One received a call from King informing the Tobiroppo that the challenge for an opportunity to fight the All-Stars was cancelled, and that they were to stop the enemy alliance from getting to the roof of the dome, where Kaido was fighting the Nine Red Scabbards.[7] Ulti and Page One thereafter attacked some samurai who attempted to stop the two from reaching Luffy. After Usopp, hiding behind Nami, launched an attack on Page One, the two Tobiroppo chased after the two Straw Hats, Ulti bent on making them pay.[11] Soon after, Ulti was seen receiving another call from King, who ordered the Tobiroppo to go after Kozuki Oden's son, Momonosuke, to kill him in order to break the enemy samurai's will to fight.[16]

Major Battles[edit | edit source]

Trivia[edit | edit source]

  • Ulti is likely named after the Hungarian card game of the same name, fitting with the card game-based naming scheme of the Shinuchi.
  • Curiously, Ulti's name comprises half hiragana, half katakana.
  • She is the first known female who is an Ancient Zoan user.
  • Ulti's favorite food is tornado potatoes.[2]
