Hey, guys. It's been a while. Wow, it's been almost 2 years since I last wrote anything. Dang. Sorry, I've been busy. This won't be that kind of blog post.
I've been thinking lately about why my two favorite story arcs (Punk Hazard and Dressrosa) are my favorites and I realized that it had nothing to do with the fights or the new characters or anything flashy like that. It had to do more with the setup and execution of the elements involved. The themes at work in each arc, I think, are some of Oda's best writing in the whole series. I'd like to examine why these arcs worked so well thematically in their execution.
Punk Hazard was one of the few arcs after East Blue where we had no idea what was going to happen. Unlike Little Garden, where t…Read more >
This blog is going to cover two different topics because I don't feel like writing two separate blogs. The first has to do with Big Mom, the second has to do with the current situation in the story.
The most intriguing part of chapter 868 is that Charlotte Linlin somehow acquired Carmel's Soul Soul power. She did not acquire the power through conventional means. We know this based on Streusen's reaction to her sudden ability to give things souls, as well as her own surprise, and most importantly, being seemingly completely ignorant of Devil Fruit powers at the time. What a setup. The wedding, and the plans to ruin it, are now well under way. Let us pause, like the story, and take stock of everything we have up until now. This, is your pre-shit hits the fan breakdown.
In the red corner, we have Charlotte Linlin and her insanely strong family as well as their subordinates. They are going to be quite the group to contend with, even one on one, considering how nervous Vito is and what we've seen them do up until now.
And in the blue corner, we have the Firetank Pirates, Caesar Clown, Jinbe, and the Sanji retrieval team, with the entirety of the latter fast asleep.
I'm just going to say this now. Combat-wise and in terms of sheer numbers, the odds are set against our heroes. Even with the full power of the F…Read more >
Well, things seem to be getting interesting. Sanji sees no other alternative than to get married, Mama sent an army after Luffy, and we see some more of the Charlotte kids. I will say this. I want to see Nami fight Prometheus and Zeus. I've never seen a weather fight, and I want to see one.
Let me get one thing out of the way first. That first panel: The hills are aliiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiive, with the sound of- you get the idea. I can't believe no one's made that joke yet.
Nami talks about the storm Mama sends and just like that it rolls in. I love perfect timing. Baum the explainer tells her they're totally screwed (like they haven't heard that one before). I gotta say, Zeus looks really unenthused about this whole thing. And as I type th…Read more >

People: Why's the house coming down!
Jack: Thank you, I'll be here all week, unfortunately for you.
Inuarashi: This advice may be out of character, but grab trees!
Nekomamushi: So, Zunisha, what seems to be pissing you off today?
Zunisha: Hello? Is this thing on? Testing...
Luffy: I hear you fine.
Momo: I'm good.
Everyone else: What? Is someone talking?
Momo: Voice, you're at a 10, I need you at a 3.
Jack: Suck it, PETA! Aim for the leg! Thank God I took that structural engineering course.
Crew: It's having an effect!
Jack: It's a 1000 year old elephant. What? You were expecting kevlar?
Zunisha: I'm getting a bad case of shrapnel in my leg! Little help here?
Jack: Make elephant fall down!
Zunisha: Please, tell me what to do. I nee…Read more >
