Yeah, welcome!

It seems you are not new to wiki's in general, but still: If you need help with something, feel free to ask :).

Have a nice stay!  Jinbe  Talk  20:54, July 16, 2011 (UTC)

I will simply copy the instruction of a fellow editor, JapaneseOpfan:

Ok, I'll tell you, no problem ^^.

As for doing it for you... I actually can't do that since it involves using your preferences, which I cannot see. I'll try to explain as simply as possible. Don't worry, it's not as hard at it looks! Here we go:

First, you have to make a page for your signature to be on. Just go to your user page & add /sig to the end of the URL, and create the page. Like, mine is located at http://onepiece.wikia.com/wiki/User:JapaneseOPfan/sig

(just erase my name and replace it with yours. Put it on your somewhere on your profile, and link it. When you publish it, it'll be red. Leave it like that for now.)

Next, you have to make a page to link to, so that your whole entire sig-code doesn't show up on every single page. Just make another page, which will be the same as the 1st one, but will have a 2 after /sig. Like this: http://onepiece.wikia.com/wiki/User:JapaneseOPfan/sig2

On the 2nd page you made, put

in brackets (these ), except put your user name in between the : and the /.

Then go to your "My preferences". Under "user profile", find the box marked "signature" and put:

in brackets, and again, put your user name between the : and /. Note that this time, you are putting "sig2" in brackets, not just "sig" like last time. Don't forget to check the box underneath that says "Custom signature".

Once all is set up, you're finally ready to begin work on your signature, which will go on your first signature page (the first one you made, the one without the 2 after /sig). You know, click the red link and add to the page. Just put all the HTML stuff you used for your first attempts. You won't have to touch the 2nd page at all. Tell me if you don't get something! Hope this helps^^ JapaneseOPfan :: Talk 01:48, February 25, 2011 (UTC)

And if you are lazy, there is an editor who creates signatures for others, Roranoa Zoro:

Good luck :) Jinbe  Talk  23:05, July 16, 2011 (UTC)

In your preferences put in the signature

Now it should works. The signature is in /sig2, so if you want to change it just made a new page and change the page in /sig, this will avoid changing all the old signatures. Be careful to not add new empty lines in the sig, otherwise the sig will be on more than one line. For changing the date format, see this page. Now you will have to sign with only 3 tildes (~~~) not 4 (~~~~) otherwise the date will be displayed 2 times. You can read my discussion with ricizubi, there can be other advices. leviathan_89 18:25, 6 August, 2011 (UTC)

Trivia Deletion

I wanted to know why you deleted what I wrote in the trivia section in episode 517. I only wrote that this is the first episode in the second half of the series. It's not a spoiler, especially when in the episode before, it says that it's the last episode in the first half of the series, so it's obvious that this episode is the first in the second half. So why delete it? --Strawhat1 16:50, September 25, 2011 (UTC)

As I said, there is absolutely no need to fill in any information what so ever, before the episode has actually been released. The page that is made for now is only created to make things easier for people to add information when the page is released.

We've decided long ago no gifs. Yata Talk to me 01:41, March 11, 2012 (UTC)

Hi there, you had been uploading quite a lot of gifs lately. I just want you to know that "Gifs will only be made in the situation when neither the anime nor manga are able to fully illustrate the technique or power, or an animated image is beneficial and can supplement the written description." Some of your gifs weren't quite necessary. So if either the manga or anime is able to show the technique clearly, could you not upload a gif of the technique? Thanks.  Jademing  Talk   01:40, October 3, 2012 (UTC)

Oh I didn't know that, but you gotta admit that gifs look much cooler. Anyway, for Hakikane.gif, you need to see that his forehead turns black, you can't see that in the final punch, for Redhawk.gif, you can't view the full technique in one image, as the ignition is part of the technique as well. And as for Crossingofsixpaths.gif, seeing the actual slicing effect and the after-effect cant be viewed in one image. Although Tatsumaki.gif might not be needed. Sometimes .gif's just look better than still images. For example, when illustrating the gatling, you CAN illustrate it in one image, but illustrating it in an animated .gif gives more effect.Sewil 1:56, October 3 - 2012

If you want to discuss the gif's, please refer to this forum. Seriously, you've made quite an overhaul and while I love gif's, there's always such a thing as too much. uknownada Talk 02:09, October 3, 2012 (UTC)

Prev/Next in Arc Boxes

I saw you changed the general presentation of the prev/next links in arc boxes. I really don't agree with your changes. Here are my problems (I give only one example per issue, but of course I disagree with all changes similar to those):

  1. Why removing the previous anime arc? It is far better to have one line for prev/next in canon, and another for prev/next in anime. The fact that the previous arc is the same on two lines is not a problem. Removing it does not improve clarity, it is rather the contrary to me.
  2. I don't get this at all. The SH's separation serial was meant to be seen as an anime arc here, cause it's the arc that comes before the Marineford Arc in the anime. You seem to have replaced that information by the previous and next mini-arcs in the manga, which is totally different, and makes no real sense (mini-arcs are parallel to manga arcs, they are not sequenced).
  3. This is incorrect to me. This is a mini-arc box, not an arc box, so the plain prev/next should be only mini arcs. Thing is, some mini-arcs are also anime arcs, so there's also the anime chronology here—but it's kinda secondary. Using only "prev/next" to refer to anime arcs is really ambiguous.
  4. Finally, mixing different types of changes you did, we get this. It seems the previous anime arc was the Arlong one, while it was actually the Buggy mini-arc. There's info about mini-arcs, but one doesn't know how it is related to the arc in question ("next mini-arc"? but the Loguetown Arc is not a mini-arc…).

Overall, I strongly disagree with your changes. I would appreciate that you enlighten me about their interest or revert them. (I'm not questioning your improvement of the template, though.) Thanks! sff9 17:00, November 8, 2012

Hello sff9.

  1. What the Next/previous anime arc labels indicates is that the next/previous arc of episodes aren't in the manga, but only in the anime. What the Next/previous arc labels indicate is that the next/previous arc is both in the manga and the anime. We have the technology to merge them together to one, so why not do that? Writing the same arc twice in the same template is not only unnecessary, it is also quite confusing for the users who navigate through the arcs, thinking it might be a special or something of the same arc.
  2. That was a mistake by me, I didn't know that manga had it set up that way. I thought they had it set up the anime had it, which was splitting it up in 2 pieces. It's supposed to be
|prev anime = Straw Hat Separation 2
|next = Post-War Arc
  1. Hm.. your right about that, I'll make it so that it says next anime arc instead then, since there are anime chronology in some mini arcs.

Finally, while I do agree that some of this might seem rather chaotic, I'm trying to improve it as we speak. Instead of having 3 different rows I'm going to make is so that if one row misses one label, and the row below only have one label, it will push that label up so that instead of having two rows with single labels it will have one row with two different labels. Also, I'm going to remove the links to next/previous mini arcs if they arn't connected to the anime, or if only one of them are following the line, like in the Amazon Lily arc, where it connects to the CP9's Independent Report, just because the next mini arc is the Straw Hat Separation serial. That was rather stupid of me.

Hope to hear back from you! Sewil 13:27, November 9 - 2012

Hi! So, basically, I think the only aspect we are still disagreeing upon is the repetition of previous or next arcs when they are the same for manga and anime, right? Actually, there's obviously no real "problem"—all the information is in there in both our versions, and anyone can figure it out. But I find it clearer to have one row for navigation through canon arcs, and another for navigation through anime arcs. If you really think it's better to avoid repeating information (which I don't like too, but find less important), then I think the best presentation would be to have one centered row for the unique prev/next arc, and two rows for the others, kind of like this:

PrevNext canon
Next anime

Also, about the compressing of two rows in one, I'm afraid it's going to be confusing. Personally, I expect prevs/nexts in a single row to be of the same "nature", and would be quite disturbed if it were not always the case. Anyway, even if I'm not convinced by all your changes, good work with the template and doc! sff9 19:54, November 10, 2012

Actually, how you displayed it there was how I did it the first time before adding the mini arc as its own row. I could always revert back to that edit. Plus, not so much code is needed for that version either.
Sewil 20:02, November 10 - 2012

Was it? I thought it was more like

Next anime

but whatever. Gonna take a closer look to your final version tomorrow. sff9 20:21, November 10, 2012

Arc Start

If you take a look at Template:Punk Hazard Arc you'll see that 654 is on that arcs navigation template. Since 574 will correspond with that chapter, it has to go on the Punk Hazard Arc.   Galaxy 9000   21:28, November 10, 2012 (UTC)

The episode has not been released nor has the title. How can you possibly know it will be on Punk Hazard?
Sewil 21:31, November 10 - 2012

It's not the fact that it will be on PH, it's the fact that it is likely to correspond with the GAM chapter (on the scan that announced the filler arc, the panel from the GAM chapter was shown at the end. Anyways, if you really must, just change 654 to the Fishman Island Arc, and your arc box will work perfectly.   Galaxy 9000   21:33, November 10, 2012 (UTC)

It's not that, I mean the manga and anime are not always parallel. Maybe they will input some fillers until episode 577? I don't think they will have one episode of punk hazard just to follow up with 2 filler episodes. Makes no sense.
Sewil 21:35, November 10 - 2012

This is Toei we're talking about here. They interrupted Impel Down after 3 episodes to add the Little East Blue Arc filler. Also, the Z's ambition arc is more likely to be through all of December, according to the scan, it's just the titles haven't been released yet.   Galaxy 9000   21:36, November 10, 2012 (UTC)

If they do not have any name for the episode yet, then please refrain from making the article. Wait until we get the name, and then make the article. Thanks.  Jademing  Talk   21:37, November 10, 2012 (UTC)

Boolean tests in templates

[1] What are you talking about? It seems to work well: User:Sff9/Sandbox4. sff9 20:46, November 25, 2012

Nope. It didn't work well. I checked with the arcs and it didn't span the rows when using your version. I fixed it anyway. Sewil 20:55, November 25 - 2012

Yeah, I screwed up, but not because of Boolean conditions not working—fortunately they do! Anyway, your version still does not work when there are no anime arcs. My last one should be OK: Whiskey Peak Arc, Reverse Mountain Arc, Orange Town Arc. sff9 21:18, November 25, 2012

What was wrong in the first place? Sewil 21:29, November 25 - 2012

The bottom line of the frame wasn't shown when there was only one row of prev/next. It was because of the rowspan=3, which mustn't be used in this case. Check it there: User:Sff9/Sandbox2.

Oh, BTW, do you know about the "switch" function? I have the feeling it could make some of your coding a bit easier. sff9 21:49, November 25, 2012

So I compared them here and there's no visual difference. The only difference is invisible in the code. And yes I do know of the switch function but I do not feel that it is a necessity in the template. Sewil 21:58, November 25 - 2012

Well the difference is visible in my browser… Whatever. Problem solved anyway. sff9 22:17, November 25, 2012

I don't understand why episode 574 is counted as the Fishman Island arc when everything that happens in it is during chapter 654 which is during the Punk Hazard arc.Frozenstein (talk) 15:41, November 26, 2012 (UTC)

Read the talk page.Sewil 17:27, November 26 - 2012

I did and it still isn't cannoically proper, read the manga or look at the chapters listed in the Punk Hazard arc, cannonically it is this arc not the Fishman Island arc so it's a huge inconsistency and also a flaw.Frozenstein (talk) 03:08, November 27, 2012 (UTC)

Special Edition Eyecatchers

What is the Special Edition Eyecatchers? Strawhat1 (talk) 04:50, November 30, 2012 (UTC)

They are from the remasters of One Piece which is an upscale to 16:9 720p resolution. They are released every saturday and currently there are 34 episodes released. Since they have the ratio 16:9 Toei animation had to cut off the top and bottom parts which made it a 4:3 ratio, and then upscale it, since they don't wanna stretch the image. Sewil 16:47, November 30 - 2012

Replacing Episode Images with PNG

Is it really necessary to replace the episode images with png? At the end, the images will all be displayed at a fixed width in their respecting episode article and won't take fully advantage of the PNG format. There is no additional benefit we could get from all this process. MasterDeva (talk) 04:00, December 11, 2012 (UTC)

Yes there is. When the JPG is shrinked it will get pixelated, the PNG does not get pixelated by shrinking it. It's as simple as that. For every image I've replaced I've always compared it with the former and always seen an improvement. Currently every image except for 3-8 is a .png. I'm thinking of replacing 3-8 with the latest episode specials so that it gets to a 16:9 ratio like the latest 720p episodes. Sewil 4:16, December 11 - 2012
What I meant was that we may have to change the width of the images to fit them in the text such is not the case with episode images. They are placed on a fixed width (380px) and will stay that way afterwards. Alas if you are willing to go through them then be my guest. I would urge you though to properly copy the source code from the JPG version and paste it on the PNG. I've noticed that issue on several images you've replaced. So please take notice. MasterDeva (talk) 05:03, December 11, 2012 (UTC)
I've already gone through them all. As long as the images I replace are either the ratio of 4:3 for SD or 16:9 for HD it's not a problem to replace the collages to .png. I didn't even recap most of them. The wikia has a problem in shrinking .jpg images, as it's pixelating them, shouldn't happen normally, but it does. Sewil 5:24, December 11 - 2012
Make sure in the future to properly copy and paste the source code from the JPG files to the PNG ones. Other than that thank you for your work and take care. ^_^ MasterDeva (talk) 06:30, December 11, 2012 (UTC)
Alright, and thank you. Sewil 6:39, December 11 - 2012

Episode stuff

Need any help doing that?   Galaxy 9000   19:33, January 4, 2013 (UTC)

I guess. You could start by removing the categories from the episodes that are listed under E. The template will put them under their corresponding episode number. I'm working on that right now. Other than that, the episodes that in the season categories aren't listed with a number should also have their categories removed, it's a lot of stuff to fix :P. Sewil 19:36, 4/1/13

Listed under E?   Galaxy 9000   19:39, January 4, 2013 (UTC)

In Category:Episodes they are sorted under letters and numbers, but I removed the ones who were sorted under the letter E (If you don't type a number when you add your category, like , it will just take the first letter of the name of the article, which is E (Episode)). Sewil 19:44, 4/1/13

I see. So, if they are already gone, then there's nothing else?   Galaxy 9000   19:46, January 4, 2013 (UTC)

Well there are all the Season categories. Sewil 19:47, 4/1/13

K. Check how I did it on the first 3 episodes. Confirm if that's right, and I'll do them all.   Galaxy 9000   19:51, January 4, 2013 (UTC)

There's no need to do it if they already have the correct categorization. Will just be a waste of energy. For the episodes that only don't have the, for example, 003, in the category, will be sorted incorrectly and can be removed. The easiest way to check is to go through the Category:Seasons and check if they are listed under a letter or a number. Sewil 19:54, 4/1/13

None of them are under a letter there..

Wouldn't really be a waste of energy though, because leaving it in if it's automated is bad coding.   Galaxy 9000   19:57, January 4, 2013 (UTC)

Lol it's a lot of episodes to go through but if you really feel like going through them all be my guest. I just added this to the template for consistency for future episodes. Sewil 19:59, 4/1/13

Consider it done.   Galaxy 9000   20:00, January 4, 2013 (UTC)

Can you guys use a bot when you do these kind of jobs? You literally flooded Special:RecentChanges, now it's hard to keep track of new contributions. You also increase the chance of vandalism being buried in the last changes, this is why we use bots. Pleas either ask sff9 or make one of your own next time. leviathan_89 21:45, 4 January, 2013 (UTC)

Btw, for the sorting problem I believe you could have simply resolved by adding a to the episode template. leviathan_89 21:49, 4 January, 2013 (UTC)

Well... this works too ^^ Sewil 21:51, 4/1/13

Sewil. Use minor edits and it won't show up there. That's what I do.   Galaxy 9000   06:10, January 5, 2013 (UTC)

Vandals don't do minor edits. Bots can only do minor edits, so the activity floods either way. People need to disable minor edits.   Galaxy 9000   06:15, January 5, 2013 (UTC)

And it still doesn't matter, because bot edits are minor.   Galaxy 9000   06:19, January 5, 2013 (UTC)

Yep. Same to you. Gonna probably do that pirate category now though.   Galaxy 9000   06:51, January 5, 2013 (UTC)

Of course it's possible, but I'm like super busy right now, sorry… If you're not in a hurry I'll try to do it next week… (Also Gal, bot edits are not minor, they're simply flagged as "bot".) sff9 17:08, January 5, 2013

Image categories

Ideally it should be all 4 of them. The current state of the categories is a mess, so it's surely not always possible, but we're gonna succeed eventually! Your edit seems perfect, that's the general idea. sff9 21:13, January 14, 2013

It may be obscurely said, but that's what I meant though: a pic must be in one subcat of each of the 4. sff9 21:19, January 14, 2013

Doesn't Exist

Only in your mind does that "pointless" space actually exist. There is no point in keeping the episode title combined with the coding of the infobox. This was one of the changes we had changed to when redoing episode formats. SeaTerror (talk) 23:26, January 14, 2013 (UTC)

You mean something that is incredibly minor? I assumed you were talking about something that required the {-} template. Not to mention I looked in both monobook and new wikia look and did not see that so called space on any released episodes. Oh I see it now. It only appears when an episode does not have an image in it which is only the unreleased episodes. In fact your way is worst because it makes the infobox go into the short summary section. I missed your other messge. You're completely wrong about the episodes not having the space. Every single episode has it because of the new episode format we went with. SeaTerror (talk) 23:41, January 14, 2013 (UTC)

The only episodes that did not have the space were newer ones which I had changed to go back to the format that we were using. The "space" isn't much of a space at all. Every episode before those episodes had the space. SeaTerror (talk) 00:32, January 15, 2013 (UTC)

Nobody at all will think that there is anything wrong with the template. It looks fine and does not look "ugly" one bit. The space has been there for months and nobody ever said anything about it. SeaTerror (talk) 00:50, January 15, 2013 (UTC)

SBS 68

I noticed that you were uploading the pictures for SBS Volume 68. I also noticed that there were a fair number of them that were red-linked. Were they deleted, and if so, would you like me to restore them? Or are they being replaced? Either is fine, just let me know if there's anything you need me to do.DancePowderer Talk 18:48, January 19, 2013 (UTC)

Neither, I just prepared the links for them when I was typing, and they are all uploaded now. Sewil 18:49, January 19 - 2013

No it hasn't. So far only you and Galaxy want to remove the space in the discussion. Go to the discussion, I gave my reason. Ref Pirates

Hey Sewil, welcome to the Reference Pirates! You can start whenever you want, but notice that if there isn't 1 job per month done, there'll be a consideration in excommunication. Recommended is reading the rules and if you have questions, just ask them :P. Happy editing.

Could you please be consistent with the source format in use for images? MasterDeva (talk) 06:54, February 7, 2013 (UTC)

What do you mean? I always use the same format. Sewil 6:55, February 7 - 2013
The source format we use is this:
* From Episode #.
* From Chapter #.
Where the source on top is the for the image currently in use. The asterisk can be omitted if there is only one source. MasterDeva (talk) 07:02, February 7, 2013 (UTC)

11SN Portraits

Rergardless of your opinion on the matter, the wikia has decided to use pre-skip portraits on the Supernovas page, since we consider people to be Supernovas only before the skip. So please do not replace and mark for deletion all the 11SN portraits. And if you disagree, don't complain to me about it, do it on the proper talk/forum/whatever. Why did you undo my categorization on Luigia and Mendo

Yo Sewil, it's WU barging into the house on a whim! I have seen that you have reverted my non-canon categorization on the following characters; Luigia and Mendo. Why did you do that? I just want an explaination because you didn't give me one when you undid me, that's all. No explaination and the user who got reverted doesn't know why, and can't learn anything from it, so please give me one or i will change it back. Just a warning bro, nothing else ◉︵◉ Wish you'll have a still great day, and I'll see ya later. Redirecting categories

I'm not sure what you're trying to achieve by redirecting non-empty categories. It does not automatically put all pages in the redirected category. Maybe there's something I don't understand? Anyway, if you really want to remove a category and put all of its content in another, just ask me to do it, it's fairly easy with PX-Bot.

Now, about :Category:Cover Plot Images: it is not redundant since it adds information. Category:Cover Story Images are all images from cover stories, including appearance and infobox images for example. :Category:Cover Plot Images describes both the source and the use of the pics. However, while it is not redundant, it may be considered as useless. If you really think so, and want to remove it yourself, then make sure all pics are put both in Category:Cover Story Images and in Category:Plot Images, otherwise some info will be lost in the process. sff9 17:36, March 18, 2013

Yup, I see your point. I too don't think there is much to say for this category's defense. I'll remove it.
(About redirecting categories, it is not supposed to work as you thought, and the theory was confirmed experimentally with the few categories you once redirected.) sff9 19:02, March 20, 2013

I know, but if the Straw hats are automatically featured, then I don't want to have to post there again. It's laziness for the future, not a lack of logic.

Also, I noticed your Deletion button-thingy and I'm interested in it. Does it work, and would you mind if I copied it for my own use? Thanks. JustSomeDude...  Talk | 19:00, March 22, 2013 (UTC)

I've just tried out your deletion button, and it works great! Thanks! Also, do you think it could be possible to make a similar thing that add IGR to usertalks (In the proper ~~~~ format, of course)? Because that would be totally awesome. Thanks. JustSomeDude...  Talk | 14:05, March 24, 2013 (UTC)

Hey, can you change the delete button so that it blanks the image's page before it adds the deletion template? JustSomeDude...  Talk | 04:36, March 28, 2013 (UTC)

"You can only vote once and you can not vote on your own nomination."

Just to say, you might wanna change your vote in the Featured Article polls, since you're not supposed to vote for your own. uknownada Talk 19:26, March 29, 2013 (UTC)

Is it? Could have sworn it was an actual rule...seems reasonable, since it's unfair to vote for your own nomination. I'll bring it up later. uknownada Talk 20:48, March 29, 2013 (UTC)

Episode Box Images

I'm not sure what you did to Template:Episode Box, but whatever you did classified all these images as unused. I checked the episode pages just to make sure and I found that apparently, these "unused files" are still being used. Any idea what caused this? Lelouch Di Britannia Talk Page  13:41, October 15, 2013 (UTC)

The episode pages need to be refreshed/purged.   Galaxy 9000   13:46, October 15, 2013 (UTC)

Unused parameters

Hi, I started removing the {chapter} parameter on episode pages, but realized I was misunderstanding something. If I remove "chapter=Filler", the infobox changes. Exactly in which cases I am supposed to remove this parameter? sff9 14:47, December 14, 2013

OK, seems easy enough. Hope there won't be too many special cases. sff9 20:35, December 14, 2013

WhichSeason Template

Hey Sewil, I was wondering, does the {{#ifexpr:{} > episodes||...}} part of the WhichSeason Template actually serve any purpose? From what I can see, the result is blank either way, and having the other template in there can lead to issues - if isn't updated regularly it causes the season parameter (and appropriate category) to be removed from every episode page. I don't want to mess with it myself though in case I'm just being dumb and missing something obvious.

Oh, and while I'm here, are you using Template:WhichAnimeEpisode/format and Template:WhichMangaChapter/format for anything or can they be deleted? They've been in unused templates for a while now. Zodiaque             13:46, December 15, 2013 (UTC)

Hey! I am from the Soul Eater Wikia and I was wondering If you could help me with something. I'm having a hard time creating infoboxes similar to this wikia with the Tabs like "Timeskip" and tabs like "Manga-Anime" on infoboxes! The Soul Eater Wikia really needs these type of infoboxes and unfortunately, the people who're skilled at this in the wikia have been long gone.

If you would like to give us a hand in it, please contact me at the Soul Eater Wikia! Thanks

Ban Poll Glitch

Hey Sewil, while trying to close the ban length section of ST's forum, the poll template appears to have glitched. Changing the closed parameter makes the ban length poll disappear entirely, votes included. There seems to be no way (based on the template doc) to make it closed but have the votes remain visible. If you could take a look at the template it would be appreciated. Thanks. JustSomeDude...  Talk | 15:56, February 24, 2014 (UTC)
