Yazaemon[5] is a ninja and a member of the Beasts Pirates. He previously was a member of the Orochi Oniwabanshu which served the shogun of Wano Country, Kurozumi Orochi.[2]

Due to his actions and role, he is a minor antagonist in the Wano Country Arc.

Appearance[]

Yazaemon is a man of relatively average height, though he is perpetually hunched over with his hands resting on the ground. His face is completely covered by bandages, leaving only his red eyes exposed. He wears a straw snow cape with a tube at the top. He wears a blue kimono with hash patterns on it; the kimono has rather puffy sleeves.[2]

Personality[]

As a member of the Oniwabanshu, Yazaemon appeared to be loyal to Kurozumi Orochi until the latter's death.[2]

Abilities and Powers[]

Like the other Oniwabanshu, Yazaemon possesses tremendous stealth abilities and was able to sneak up on Nico Robin with the entirety of his group.[2] His specialty is "Arrow" (, Ya?).[5]

The following events are Non-Canon and therefore not considered part of the Canon story.

Weapons[]

In the anime, Yazaemon can release what appears to be paper-like bindings from his arms.[6] He later launched several arrows from the tube on top of his head.[7]

History[]

Wano Country Saga[]

Wano Country Arc[]

When the geisha O-Robi snuck around Orochi Castle during a banquet held by Orochi, the Oniwabanshu confronted her and attempted to restrain her.[2] However, the Robin they had confronted turned out to be a body double, and Fukurokuju ordered the Oniwabanshu to search the banquet hall for the real Robin.[8]

Several days later, the Oniwabanshu accompanied Orochi to Onigashima to have a banquet with the Beasts Pirates during the Fire Festival.[9] However, Kaidou would kill Orochi during the banquet as part of his plot to fully take over Wano, and Fukurokuju pledged the Oniwabanshu's allegiance to the Beasts Pirates.[3]

Anime and Manga Differences[]

Brook Scares Chome and Other Ninjas

Brook scares Yazaemon and other members of the Orochi Oniwabanshu.

In the manga, Yazaemon was not shown attacking Robin when the Oniwabanshu confronted her, but in the anime he appeared to attempt to bind her.[8] In the manga, Yazaemon did not appear with the Orochi Oniwabanshu after Shimotsuki Yasuie's execution but in the anime, Yazaemon is shown with the Orochi Oniwabanshu to help fight off the Straw Hat Pirates at the execution site. He along with the other members is also shown terrified by Brook's disembodied spirit and mistook him for the Gashadokuro.[7]

Trivia[]

  • Yazaemon may be named after Kido Yazaemon, a famous ninja from the 16th century who once attempted to assassinate the daimyo Oda Nobunaga.[10]
  • Yazaemon's favorite food is kushiage.[4]
